CENSUS 1851 1851 census Lewis R Richardson, age 14, pupil, male, born Brede, living in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, household 1433, living with 14 other males: 1 age 23, 1 age 21, the rest aged 9 - 17 (St Nicholas Cottage is the school house he lived in) Is this the correct Lewis? Age varies by 2 yrs but this is a common error. Louis Richard Richardson attended St Michael's College, Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, and is recorded there in the 1851 census born Brede, Sussex. He was certainly educated by a C of E clergyman at an AngloCatholic boarding school. The school was founded in 1849 so Lewis was one of the early pupils there. Although the census names it as St Michaels, it seems to be dedicated to St John, and is now called Hurstpierpoint College.

Family source reports Lewis James (?) was educated in England by a C of E minister or tutor, settled in Ontario, married a widow woman with 2 children. (Source Claudia Boorman oral history)
