Richard Moncure enlisted in Company B, Virginia 9th Cavalry Regiment on 09 Mar 1862. He was a well respected lawyer in Stafford County, Virginia. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

AGED VETERAN GONE Mr. R.C.L. Moncure, of Stafford, Passes Away

Mr. R.C.L. Moncure, one of the oldest citizens of Stafford, a brave Confederate soldier and highly esteemed gentleman died at his home in Stafford county Saturday, aged 85 years. Mr. Moncure led an active life up to a short time ago when he was a victim of blood poison and it became necessary to amputate one of his toes. Since that time he has steadily declined. The deceased is survived by three sons, former Sheriff R.C.L. Moncure, of Stafford; Mr. Henry W. Moncure, of Washington; Mr. M. Wallace Moncure, of Richmond; two daughters. Mrs. James Ashby, of Stafford; Mrs. Virginia Groth, of New York; one brother, Mr. Eustace Moncure of this city; five sisters, Mrs. Thomas Wallace , Mrs. John M. Hull, Mrs. D.M. Chichester, of Stafford, Mrs. Walter A. Moncure, of Richmond, and Mrs. Alice Paynter, of Chicago. The funeral will take place from Aquin church Monday afternoon. Interment in the family lot in the church burying ground.
