Born in Sherborn MA, Apr. 5, 1727. He settled in Douglas and died ther in 1781. He served in the revolutionary war. His name appears with the rank of Lieutenant on the Lexington Alarm Roll of his brother-in-law, Capt. Caleb Whiting's company, which marched, on the alarm of Apr. 19, 1775, from Douglas. Time of service - 10 days (see war rolls) He was commissioned as First Lieutenant of the 8th Company of the 3d Worcester Co. Regt. 9th July, 1776. [2]
His name appears on a list of officers of the MA militia, firswt as Lieut. of the 8th Co. of the 3rd Worchester County Regiment, commissioned July 9, 1776, (MA archives, vil. 28, p 119) His father Dr. Jonathan of Sherborn, conveyed lands to his "beloved son" Joshua of Douglas, Feb 11, 1753. (Worchester deeds, Lib. 44, fol. 5) [1]
His will, dated JUly 2, 1781, was probated in Worchester Aug. 7, 1781, His wife and his "eldest son Amos" were nominated as executors. Besides these, his will mentions his eldest daugheter, Lydia Boynton, second daughter, Hannah Whiting, third sin Joshua, two sons, John and Ellis, and his two youngest daughters Dorcas and Rosanna.
