Kermit F. Lavender, 94, died Feb. 16, 2008, in Enid, Okla., after a short illness.
Service 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Dr. Carol Woods officiating. Burial will be private for the family only in Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel.
He was born in 1912 at Tishomingo, Okla. His Navy aviation career included service in the Pacific during World War II in the Korean War, coaching wrestling teams, and his 1958 retirement as a lieutenant commander to Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. He worked successfully as a sales manager. His community activities included being an active Boy Scout leader, a founder of Hope Inc., a Master Mason, and a First United Methodist Church member.
He is survived by brothers, Alvin and Gene; sisters, Edith Wilson and Helen Talbert; and sons, Leo, Julian and Max; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd, Ray, Hulet, Roy Hackney and Morris; and by sisters, Effie, Violet and Cora; wife, Virginia; and second wife Hazel.
