He was born Aug 24, 1834, per copy of his Diary, transcribed by a relative in 1967:

This is the transcriber's preface:

Lt. Swift was born in Franklin County, Ga. Aug. 24, 1835 to Tyree and Rhoda Chandler Swift.... Captured at Champion Hill (Bakers Creek) Nay 16, 1863, he arrived at the Federal prisoner-of-war camp on Johnson's island, Erie County, Ohio, July 5, 1863. He died of small-pox on January 1, 1864 and is buried in Grave 103 in the Confederate Cemetery on the Island. This diary, together with a fancy dress vest and other personal items were returned to his family in Georgia after the war. The vest and the diary have been kept in the family of his sister, Eliza Jane, wife of William C. Richardson of Wnitfie1c County,Ga. The following copy was made by Lewis Richardson, grandson of Eliza J. and William C.
