Lietenant Aemilius Sumpson, here treated, is the fourth son and fifth child of Alexander Simpson, schoolmaster in Dingwall, and his second wife, Elelia MacIntosh. According to his baptismal record, he was born on 27 July 1792 and his baptism was registered on 30 July 1792, at Dingwal in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. His mother died ten days after his birth. His baptismal record reads as follows: "Emilius [son of] Mr Alexr Simpson [Schoolmaster] & Emilia MacIntosh [Residents of] Dingwall". Death
Lieutenant Aemilius Simpson died of an inflamation of the liver in 1831, while aboard the Hudson's Bay Compay ship Dryad. Archibald Macdonald, the company's Chief Fur Trader at Fort Langley, said this of him: "we have to lament the loss of poor Lieutenant Simpson who died on board his own vessel . . . . . He was born on 11 October 1821 and his baptism was registered on 22 October 1821, at Dingwall in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. His baptismal record reads as follows: "Horatio Nelson illegitimate [son of ] Emilius Simpson [Lieut. R. N.] & Margt MacLennan [residents of] Dingwall".
