Fought in Revolutionary War as Lieutenant. DAR# A114622
Son of Caleb and Abigail. His grandfather was Jacob and his great-grandfather was John Thomson, who was born in Wales, came to Plymouth in the 1620's and married Mary, daughter of Francis Cooke, passenger on the Mayflower. William Thompson's home was in Middleboro, MA and during his married life lived in a substantial house erected by himself about two miles from the village. He served as ensign in the Middleboro company of minute-men, 1775, and as lieutenant in Col. Cotton's regiment of the Massachusetts Line under General Washington during the Siege of Boston. He was a farmer and large land owner and a justice of the peace.
William had received a grant of land in Hartford, ME "for Revolutionary service". Ira, son of William went in 1801 to Hartford, ME. (Although Ira was born in Middleboro, he died in Livermore, ME.)
