Zebulon Mead (Oct. 5, 1729 - Jan. 26, 1797), son of Timothy, grandson of Jonathan, great grandson of John, second great grandson of William, was said to be born in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, and died in Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont.
Asserted to have married firstly Anna Thompson (c1730 - bef. 1760) around 1751, and Mercy Cary (Aug. 23, 1731 - Feb. 3, 1811) around 1761. Mercy was said to be born in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut Colony, and died somewhere in Vermont at age 76.
Zebulon is said to have migrated from the Nine Partners Grant to Rutland in the New Hampshire Grants (present Vermont) in 1774, after purchasing land in December 1773 from Simeon Wright (whose daughter would marry his eldest son, Zebulon, by the end of the decade). He remained in Vermont for the remainder of his days, except during the days of crisis during and following the Battle of Hubbardton, when Gen. Simon Fraser of Balnain invaded into Vermont while trying to catch the rear guard of American rebel forces retreating from Fort Ticonderoga. During this period, Zebulon's family fled south.
A few years before his death, Zebulon is said to have deeded his farm west of Otter Creek on today's West Proctor Road to his son Henry in 1788. Both Zebulon and Henry are buried in the Pleasant Street Cemetery in West Rutland.
From Lance Mead wrote in 2005, "Zebulon's brick house was built next to the original log cabin site in the part of town of Pittsford that is now called Proctor."
Children with Anna Thompson asserted to be:
- 1. Zebulon Mead, Jr. (Mar. 14, 1753 - Feb. 27, 1827) born in Dutchess County, Province of New York, married Anna Wright (Mar. 9, 1761 - Oct. 31, 1826)
Children with Mercy Cary asserted to be:
- 1. Henry Mead (July 29, 1762 - June 5, 1839) born in the Nine Partners Patent of Dutchess County, Province of New York and died at his son Joel's house in Rutland.
- 2. Mary Mead (b. 1764, sic: actually is Cary Mead, a son)
- 3. Martin Mead (Mar. 17, 1767 - May 6, 1850) born in the Nine Partners Patent, died in Underhill, Chittenden County, Vermont, at age 83.
- 4. Abigail Mead (b. 1769) who married a Mr. Boardman.
- 5. Phebe Mead (b. Feb. 13, 1774) who married James Hewitt.
- 6. Beth Mead (b. 1776) who married James Ross. (Possibly Seth Mead who married Jane Ross?)
