About Lina Obieta Sevilla
In 2000, Nang received the Premio Zobel. the Philippines' oldest literary award for literary works in the Spanish language. She was the founder and directress of the Fundacion de la Lengua Hispanica en Filipinas. She was also a columnist for The Manila Times; her column was Manila Carousel, and she wrote under the pseudonym Mariquita Perez. It is said that she coined the word 'marilag", which became the basis for the name of the Karilagan fashion show held in Seattle in 1960.
