Birth: Nov. 13, 1923 Tampico Tamaulipas, Mexico

Death: Jul. 22, 2011 Palm Springs Riverside County California, USA

Actress. Born Blanca Rosa Welter, the daughter of a Dutch executive in the oil industry, she grew up in Venezuela, South Africa, Holland, Switzerland and Palestine, learning to speak multiple languages fluently while becoming a model student during her schooling. She worked at the Office of the British Censor during her residence in Palestine and began her training in the medical field, prior to moving to Los Angeles where she developed an interest in acting. She broke into films with a minor role in "The Rock of Souls" (1943, under the name of Linda Welter), and had further parts in the pictures "Tarzan and the Mermaids" (1948, of note for being Johnny Weissmuller's last appearance as Tarzan), "The Happy Time" (1952) and "Slaves of Babylon" (1953), gaining tabloid attention from her off-screen romance with film idol Tyrone Power (whom she married in 1949 and divorced in 1955). During the 1950s and 1960s, she alternated between Hollywood and international pictures, perhaps achieving her most prolific work in American television, as she appeared in the programs "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" and "The Dick Powell Theatre". Christian earned the distinction of playing the first "Bond Girl" in a 1954 episode of "Climax!" titled "Casino Royale" opposite Barry Nelson. She was briefly married to actor Edmund Purdom.
