About Lloyd George Melgard

From funeral program:

Lloyd George Melgard was born on Nov. 3, 1916 at Warren, Minn. He passed away in Houston, Tex., on Aug. 7, 1984 at the age of 67.

Mr. Melgard was a life-long resident of the Warren

Community where he farmed.

He attended schools in Warren and in Minneapolis. He entered the Army as a private on Dec. 7, 1940 and was discharged at the end of World War II as a Lieutenant. He entered service again during the Berlin Airlift and was discharged in 1952 as a captain. He served on the Marshall County Historical Society board, serving as president from 1963-1975. He was the editor of the Warren Diamond Jubilee History book in 1956 and the city's Centennial History book in 1981.

From the Marshall County Historical Soceity, President. Lloyd George died back in about 1984 or 85. In late May of 85 there was a auction sale selling his items. It may of even been a two day sale. I don't recall any items that came from him or his estate to the historical society. His estate was I would assume divided up among the heirs. We may though had some items donated from Cal Melgard that were from the house but just ordinary items. Yes the Maxwell is at the museum. It has been there since I believe 1985. It was on loan until being donated by Cal Melgard two years ago. We do have one other thing that came from the farm and that is a 5 foot wood wheel that was part of the drive for the Melgard elevator just east of the farm. Of course the elevator is all gone. Speaking of Cal, I assume you know he passed away last month. I been in the house at the farm a couple of times. It would of been fun to have been there when Lloyd George lived there. Now the house is boarded up and I'm sure the farm will eventually disappear. We have a copy of the 85 auction sale. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, Masonic Lodge and the Warren American Legion Post 27.

Mr. Melgard was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Minnie Melgard, and two brothers.

Left to mourn his passing are one brother and one sister, H. Q. Melgard of Warren, Minn., and Mrs. Bim Schelderup of Honolulu, Hawaii.

From a granddaughter of Hans Melgard, Loyd George's uncle. He stayed with her and her family when he came to the Twin Cities.

Lloyd George had stopped traveling as he had gained weight but then decided to travel and meet up with some friends in Texas (military reunion). There he passed away. He had a will that was written back when he enlisted in the military service that listed his parents. Family members looked for another will but did not find one so it was decided that two of his nephews who still lived in Warren would be in charge of his assets.(Probably the sons of H. Q. Melgard including Calvin "Cal". They hired an antique dealer from Winnipeg Canada to conduct a sale. Their was a snow storm the day of the sale and not sure how much was sold and what happened to the rest.
