About Lorin Andrew Thompson
Notes for Lorin Andrew Thompson:
"He shared the misfortune of the family with the invention of the shoe machine, which gradually reduced and finally eliminated their father's occupation of boot making. In observing my father's life as his first son, I felt that he was a man whose abilities were never realized beacause of the hardships of his early life. He being the eighth child, was forced to earn his living from the age of ten because of the economic difficulty of his father's family, and, therefore, could only attempt such opportunities for education as came his way while attempting to make a place for himself in a new society."
"During his service as Rural Free Delivery agent he laid out the routes for mail delivery throughout the rural areas for the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Iowa. This was the first time rural mail was delievered free and his analysis and prgrams relating to this work became the basis of rural mail delievery today in the states in which he worked."
