1. Jacob peter Stahl, Historian, Stahl Famil History, The (Dayton, Ohio, August 10, 1924; publisher not stated), pg. 104. "Louis Cristain Zechiel
Louis Christain, oldest son of John and his wife Rosina (Behner) Zechiel was born at Marmont (now CUlver) Indiana November 20, 1855. He was untied in holy wedlock with Louisa CHristiana STahl March first 1877 the marriage ceremony being preformed by the pastor of the church, Reverend Louis Richter in the Zion Reformed Church.
Louis was a farmer's son and at the same time the son of a blacksmith, the two occupations finding expression in the one father. It is but consequential that he should show more or less proficiency in these directions. Nevertheless, he has become somewhat expert in carpentry, instead.
But Louis was also a student and always displayed commendable progress in his school studies so much so that at the age of fifteen years he was able to pass a COunty School Examination for a Certificate of Teaching. At that tender age he became a "School Master" (the term is not so commonly heard today.) and taught what was knows as the Washington school on the east side of the Maxinkuckee Lake. He "made good" and retained his commendatory position for many years and was always counted as belonging to the "front tanl" of the teachers of Marshall County.
As a citizen and promoter of the bnest interest of the community, he has been esteemed by the citizenry and his counsels are frequently sought in the matter of challenging enterprises of church and community and frequently of state."
