About Louis J. Waldschmitt, ♊
For the second time in six weeks death darkened the home of a prominent Remsen family last Friday [Dec. 16th] when Louis, 23 year old son of John Waldschmitt, passed away in a hospital at Woodward, Iowa. Although an invalid all his life, the immediate cause of his death was an intestinal disorder with which he had been suffering for three months. Surviving are his father, three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held Monday [Dec. 19th].
Louis who since birth had been afflicted with an ailment which kept him an invalid, was given loving care at home by his parents, sisters and brothers these 23 years, but last April the parents took him to Woodward where they were convinced his condition could be improved under constant specialist care. Three months ago his final ailment developed and in spite of all possible care and the best of all treatment he passed away at four o’clock Friday morning. The body was brought home Saturday morning.
Louis Waldschmitt was born April 21, 1915, on a farm southeast of Remsen, and while he attended the rural and later St. Mary’s school in Remsen, he made his home always with his parents. He was a dutiful lad and dear to the hearts of his parents, brothers and sister, while under his serious handicap his disposition and character won him many friends.
The young man passed away six weeks to the day, following the death of his mother.
Surviving him besides his father, are the following sisters and brothers Mrs. John Freking, south of Remsen, Miss Ottilla of Des Moines, and Paul, John, Louise and Raymond, all at home. Miss Louise is a twin sister of the deceased.
Funeral services were held in St. Mary’s church Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock, followed by burial in St. Mary’s cemetery. Pall bearers were the following six cousins: Norbert, Walter and Clarence Zenk of Kimball, Minn., sons of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Zenk; Joseph and Lawrence of Sleepy Eye, Minn., sons of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zenk, and Milo of Alton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Zenk.
