Louisa FRENCH died at her home in Brownsville, Texas, May 4, 1914, being at that time fifty-nine years ten months and seven days of age. {Born June 27, 1854}. She was the daughter of James M. and Mary A. DOUTHITT; born in Sullivan county; received in girlhood into the fellowship of Indian Prairie Church; married January 7, 1882, to John FRENCH, of Freelandville; and the mother of three sons and two daughters. After marriage she transferred her church membership to Bethel church, in Greene County, and later to Bloomfield, where it continued to the end of her life. A few years ago her husband, in view of business interests and in the hope that a change of climate might benefit her failing health, moved to Brownsville, Texas. But instead of improving, her health continued to decline till death came. She realized that the end was inevitable, talked freely with her family and friends about its approach and cheerfully welcomed it. In every relation, as sister, wife and mother, she was affectionate, kind and true; and as a neighbor, sociable, hospitable, and loved by all who knew her. A personal peculiarity was her remarkable love for flowers and familiarity with them. She leaves a husband, three sons, George FRENCH, Brownsville, Texas, and James and Grover FRENCH, of Dugger; two daughters, Florence FRENCH, of Brownsville, Texas, and Mrs. F. H. WILLIAMS, of Lafayette; three grandchildren, three brothers and a large circle of more remote relatives. Many hundreds of people assembled in honor to her memory at her funeral at Indian Prairie Church, Sunday morning, May 10. The funeral sermon was preached by U. M. MCGUIRE, of Sullivan.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 8 2020, 3:01:50 UTC
