About Louisa Hall

Mrs. John Hall Victim of Heart Attack

Funeral at Methodist Church at 2 O'clock Wednesday, June 30, 1940

The many friends of Mrs. John Hall were shocked Monday at the news that she had died about two o'clock at Yankton from a heart attack. Until the evening before her death she appeared to be in normal health and there was no indication that her long life was close to its end.

The remains were brought to Salem the same day and kept at the Trico Funeral Home until Wednesday afternoon, when the funeral services took place at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev. R.M. Walker. Burial was made in Wildwood Cemetery.

The pallbearers were R.L. Seely, James G. Welsh, Frank Degner, M.A. Roche, O.P. Schmidt and Lutheran Englehorn.

Louise Emmel was born on August 24, 1860 near Barnveld, Wisconsin, and if she had lived until her next birthday would have been 80 years of age. She came to South Dakota as a young lady and on January 17, 1899, was united in Marriage to John Hall at Bridgewater. For 14 years they resided on their farm four miles northwest of Salem and in 1913 moved into town, where they resided ever since.

One son, Klaud Willard, was born to them but died in 1901. She is survived by her husband; two brothers, Levi Emmel of Northgate, North Dakota, and A.W. Emmel (August), who resides in Oregon; and three sisters; Mrs. Mary (Polly) Palmer of Canada, Mrs. Etta Campbell & Mrs. Emma Nye, both of Salem.

Mrs. Hall was a gracious, kind hearted lady whose genuine friendliness acquired a great many friendships for her during the 40 year that she lived in this community. She was a hard working woman, whose sole interest was in her home, and was a neighborly soul, always happy to be of service to her friends.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 24 2021, 17:13:47 UTC
