About Lt. Colonel John Douglas

Lieut.-Col. of the 8th Connecticut regiment, under Col. Jedediah Huntington, and took part in a number of engagements. His regiment was the best equipped of any in the colony; they wore scarlet coats, which had been taken from a prize vessel. Col. Douglas was a man of no little importance in the town, in his day. Two of his sons, Gen. John and Col. William, acted with bravery in the Revolutionary War; while a third, Benjamin ( Yale College ) would undoubtedly have won distinction in the legal profession, but for his untimely death at the age of 36 years.
