Anecdote* 21 March 1617 William Andrewes sailed for Virginia from Gravesend, England, 21 Mar 1616/7, aboard the Treasurer, with Capt. Samuel Argall, returning to the colony as Lietutenant-Governor, in command. The ship reached Virginia 25 May 1617 and by 1623/4 when he was listed in the census Andrews had settled on the Eastern Shore.1 Anecdote 7 March 1624 On 7 Mar 1623/4 he made a deposition as aged about 25 or 26. He was mentioned in his patent for 100 acres, 14 Mar 1628/9, as a Planter of Accomack.1 Muster* February 1624/25 William was listed in the Muster of February 1624/25 at Eastern Shore, VA. A patent, 25 Jun 1635, for 100 acres on Old Plantation Creek was due him by order of the Court 9 Oct 1627 and a patent, same date, for 200 acres recited that 50 of the aforesaid acres were for the personal adventure of his wife Susanna Andrews..1 Land patented* 14 March 1628 Lt. Col. William (1) Andrews (I) patented land on 14 March 1628 at Eastern Shore, VA. He was shown as William Andrewes, an Accomack planter, patented 100 acres of land utilizing 2 headrights that had been transferred to him. He continued to accumulate land on 25 June 1635 acquired 100 acres between Old Plantation and Kings Creek, where Capt. William Eppes' plantation was located and 200 acres on Hungars Creek, using the headright of his wife Susanna. He became a commissioner of Accomack's monthly court and a vestryman. In 1644 he was accused of illegally tranding with the Indians. He became a militia captain and later a major, and was Northampton County's high sheriff in 1655.3 Will - Extr* 14 September 1635 He was named as the executor of a will on 14 September 1635 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that the Petter Nowell's extrs William Andrewes and Garrett Andrewes were referred to.4 Anecdote 30 April 1644 On 30 Apr 1644 along with Stephen Charlton he was appointed commander of the district from Nassawattocks to Hungars. As Capt. William Andrews he was appointed, 9 Oct 1651, to command the military district of Hungars Creek and he was later major of militia and lieutenant colonel at the time of his death. --Ancient Planter --William Andrews, arrived in Virginia BET. 21 MAR 1617 - 25 MAY 1617 From Gravesland, England on the ship "Treasurer" and settled in what is now Northamption County, Virginia on Hungers Creek. He was listed in the 1623 roster of persons in Virginia. 1623 established on the eastern shore, Accomack Co., Va. with Christopher Carter and Thomas graves, 2-16-1623. He was married (at least) twice, both wives having male children who subsequently had male children. Either women might be the maternal side of the family from which the Temperance Andrews who married David Young originated.
