Biographical Summary

"Sir Charles Lockhart-Ross, Baronet [S. 1672], of Balnagowan and Bonnington, 1st s. and h., b. about 1763; was an officer in the Army, becoming finally, in 1805, Lieut. Gen., and being Col. of the 86th Foot ; was M.P. for the Wick burghs, 1786-96, for Ross-shire, 1796-1806, and for Linlithgow burghs, 1806-07 ; suc. to the Baronetcy, 9 June 1790. He m. firstly, about 1788, Matilda Theresa, a Countess in the Holy Roman Empire, da. of James Lockhart-Wishart, Count of the Holy Roman Empire, Lieut. Gen. in the Austrian Service, by his 1st wife, Matilda, da. of Sir John Lockhart, of Castle Hill. She d. 1 Feb. 1791, aged 24, and was bur. at Kensington. M.I. He m. secondly, 15 April 1799, Mary Rebecca, 1st da. of William Robert (Fitzgerald), 2d Duke of Leinster [I.], by Emilia Olivia, da. and h. of St. George (Usher-St. George), Baron St. George of Hatley St. George [I.]. He d. 8 Feb. 1814, in his 52d year. His widow, who was b. 6 May 1777, d. 28 Feb. 1842."
