About Lt. Joseph Pike
Joseph Pike was lieutenant of the Newbury Military Company by 1734. He was granted land in Rowley, Canada in the right of hiswife's father and land in Narragansett No 1 in the right of her uncle, Thomas Smith, who was killed at Bloody Brook in 1675 but there is no record of their ever having lived at either place. He was a selectman and lieutenant in the militia.
Joseph and Hannah Pike settled in Newbury and he was a lieutenant in the army. He was selectman in 1699 and held various other public offices. He was one of the original grantees of the Township of Salisbury, NH, 9 December 1736, and 12 June 1738, he was taxed for one 'Calash' (a carriage).The town of Newbury, on 12 June 1718, granted Joseph Pike and others, leave to fish upon condition that they give one salmon to each of thetwo ministers.
