Mr. Noah Hopkins, born 24 Jan 1730 at Woodbury, Litchfield, Connecticut was the eldest son of Capt. Stephen Hopkins of Hartford, Connecticut.

Capt. Stephen Hopkins bought a tract of land in 1742 and moved the family to Nine Partners, Amenia, Dutchess County, New York.

About 1762 Noah was sent to Pennsylvania to purchase land there in the Wyoming Valley. During what is now known as "the Wyoming Valley Massacre" Noah narrowly escaped death, by the Grace of God, in October of 1763 when the settlement came under attach by a war party of Maughwawame Indians.

Noah was subscriber on the "Pledge of Association" in July 1775; a document signed by the citizens of Amenia protesting the bloodshed at Lexington and Concord.

Noah and four of his brothers serve as officers in the War of Independence; Noah as 1st Lieutenant, 6th Regiment, Dutchess County, New York Militia.

Noah died on 6 May 1805 at the age of 76 years at Pittsford, Rutland, Vermont.
