Lucretia was known as 'Jane' & is one of our family's "golden connection" to Charlemagne. Connecting to the Randolphs & Ishams of Virginia-back to John of Gaunt son of King Edward III.
She was born in LaGrange, Il & is buried in Fairbury, Ne. Guyan Blair was her 2nd husband. Her 1st was John Wiggins by whom she had two children: Frank Ellsworth Wiggins and Madge Wiggins Corr.
Our family's "golden connection" to the 'rich and famous'. See notes.
(Research): From «i»The Fairbury Journey, «/i»Thursday, March 29, 1918: Obituary-Mrs. M. G. Blair Lucretia Jane Fleming was born near Canton, Fullerton (Fulton) county, Ill., March 3, 1848., and departed from this life, March 18, 1918, at the home of her son in Powell, Wyo., having completed her three score and ten. On March 26, 1877, she was united in marriage to M. G. Blair at Colllege Springs, Iowa. In the spring of 1882*, they moved on a farm near Steele City, Nebr., and resided there until the spring of 1904. Having sold the farm, they moved to Lexington, Nebr. At the age of 15 she was converted and joined the Baptist church at Canton, Ills., and remained a faithful and loyal member until the time of her death. Her life was one of useful, active service. (* They were married in 1876.) Funeral services were held at the home of her son in Powell, Wyo. Her remains were brought to Fairbury where short services were conducted by Rev. Orrill at the home of Dr. Blair. She was laid to rest in the Fairbury cemetery. There remains to mourn her death, her husband M. G. Blair, who is in his 87th year, one daughter, Mrs. James Corr of Omaha, three sons, Frank Ellsworth* of Powell, Wyo., Frederick Martin Blair of Fairbury and Benjamin Vernon (actually Vernaldo) of Lexington, Nebr. Two sisters, Lavinia Maxwell of Greeceville, Can., and Lydia Tirtlot of San Francisco, Cal., and one brother, Thomas Fleming of College Springs, Ia.
(Medical):It was the story that Martin Guian's health declined after he broke a rib while pumping water.
OUR 'GOLDEN FLEMING' CONNECTION It is this Fleming line that takes our family back to the illustrious Randolphs of Virginia-the ancestry of Mary Isham Randolph-to numerous royal and aristocratic families to Charlemagne & beyond. I remember family members saying that Lucretia was a far sterner character than her husband Martin Guian Blair-who was much beloved by his grandchildren. Grandpa Blair wrote in a letter about how strict his mother was. But in his notes Uncle Ted says "that Grandma Blair was a very sympathetic person"... She evidently went to live with her son John Wiggins in Wyoming where she died-while Grandpa Blair stayed in Nebraska.
It is thru her that our Blair family claims one of its "golden connection" to the 'crowned heads'-the rich and famous of history.
