Lucy was the daughter of Angus and Elizabeth Paul Oxendine. She married Hector Deese on Feb. 10, 1895 in Robeson county, North Carolina.
The following was taken from the May 10, 1965 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucellen Deese, 88, who died Sunday at Southeastern General, will be held at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church Wednesday at 4 p.m. Conducting the services will be Rev. Venus Brooks assisted by Rev. L. W. Jacobs.
Burial will follow services in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Deese is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ida Bell Locklear of Pembroke, and Mrs. Sara Jane Brooks of Maxton, Rt. 3; five sons, Welton, Donnie and Hector Deese, all of Pembroke, Archie and Shaw Deese of Maxton, Rt. 3; 19 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and 6 great - great grandchildren.
