Elizzie was the daughter of Hector, Sr. and Lucy Ellen Oxendine Deese. She was the second wife of M. D. Cummings. They married on Jun. 25, 1936 in Pembroke, NC.

The following was taken from the Oct. 13, 1961 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Cummings, 63, route 1, Rowland, who died Tuesday morning at Southeastern General Hospital, will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, at Harper's Ferry Baptist church. Rites will be conducted by Rev. L. W. Jacobs, Rev. T. M. Swett, Rev. Chesley Hammonds.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Lucy Ellen Deese, Maxton; four daughters, Mrs. Wayne Phelps, Baltimore, Md., Mrs. William O'Neil, Bolton, Mrs. Berlin Lowry, Okinawa, Mrs. Sam Bullard, Sanford; two sons, James A. of the home, William Cummings, Baltimore, Md.; five brothers, Donnie and Delton, of Pembroke, Hector, Charles, and Archie Deese, Maxton; two sisters, Mrs. Sara Jane Brooks, Maxton, Mrs. Ida Belle Locklear, Pembroke; 15 grandchildren.
