Lucy Maria Williams-Merrill was born in Weston Beggard, Hereford, England. She was the daughter of Benjamin Williams and Mary Ann Rock who joined the LDS church in England and came to Nauvoo to join the Saints. Benjamin died in Navoo in 1842 so Lucy grew up with a step-father.

Lucy later married William Wallace Merrill on the 31st of August 1857 in Salt Lake City. They had 14 children, 9 of which lived to maturity.

Lucy is buried in the Bluffdale City cemetery in Utah.
