In 1908, Lulu Gamer, 24, visited relatives in Montana: UNDERGROUND PARTY. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gamer were host and hostess of an underground party on Monday evening, which they gave in honor of his cousin, Miss Lulu Gamer of Tacoma, who is their guest. The party descended to the 2,800-foot level of the High Ore mine, the deepest mine on the famous hill, and were shown through the various workings. Afterwards, the party enjoyed supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Slemons, with Edson Slemons as host. The table was decorated in red carnations, and there was a profusion of the same brilliant blossoms scattered all through the house. The jolliest kind of time was had. Those who comprised the company were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gamer, Miss Gamer, Mrs. Ray Ruble. Messrs. Edson Slemons . . . . -- The Anaconda [Montana] Standard, Sunday, May 17, 1908, page 27

WOMAN WINS OVER THIEVES Wounds One of Three Who Entered Her Home. CHICAGO, March 11 [1938] -- Mrs. Helen Crisp Gamer held a unanimous decision Friday over three robbers one of whom she wounded with a pistol. She had a black eye, a puffed nose and numerous scratches to show for her struggle in which she said she was kicked, punched and knocked to the floor. The robbers held up the 36-year-old woman and her 86-year-old husband, Louis, a retired furniture manufacturer, Thursday night and bound their hands. Mrs. Gamer, a 135-pounder, freed herself, struggled with one of the intruders, grabbed a gun from a cupboard and fired point blank at a second robber who came to his companion's assistance. "I shot at the first bandit in the struggle," Mrs. Gamer said. "Maybe I missed him. But I know I didn't miss the second one." Later Dr. Robert J. Moses reported that three men lured him to his office and forced him to treat one of them who was wounded in the right side. He said the wounded man would die. -- Nevada State Journal, Reno, Nev.
