Luke Waldrop

Luke Waldrop, Sr., was born about 1712. This date is derived from the fact that he conducted business in William and Mary County, Virginia, in 1734, and, of course, he would have to have been at least twenty-one years of age to do so.

A year later (1735) he conducted business in Hanover County, Virginia. In 1749 he received a land grant in Granville County, North Carolina, and lived there for a period of time.

The publication, "Granville County of North Carolina, Volume II," shows that Luke was in Granville County in 1749, and tax lists show him there in 1755. There is evidence that he was still there in 1760.

Luke had previously resided in Amelia County, Virginia, and he died there about 1780.

He probably married twice, but the name of his first wife, by whom he had at least three children, is not known. His second wife was named Christian. She may have been from the Trevillian family, but this is not known for sure. Luke had at least three more children by Christian. His children were James, John, Mary, Ann, Joseph, Jechonias, and Luke, Jr.

Luke served in the North Carolina Militia, was paid 1 pound 6 shillings for 12 days of service in Sept, 1762. He received payment for his service from Col. Robert Harris in Mar, 1763.
