"Thomas STANDISH - b. about 1612, England; d. Dec. 5, 1692, Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT. Thomas married second about 1660, probably at Wethersfield, CT, Susannah SMITH (b. about 1624, England; d. Nov. 30, 1692, Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT), the daughter of Richard SMITH. Gov. Dr. John Winthrop, Jr. records "Patient, Thomas Standish his wife, Sussane Smith, daughter of old Richard Smith." The name of Thomas' first wife, believed to be the mother of Lydia, is not known."

"Lydia seems the most problematic child of Thomas Standish, but Doherty seems confident, calling her "dau. of Thomas and Susanne (Smith) Standish."[1] There does seem to be a problem with dates, but perhaps the Wethersfield record is incorrect. If Susanna was born c. 1630, it is difficult to understand how her daughter could have married in 1656/7. Some assume Thomas may have had an unknown, earlier marriage, and that this was the mother of Lydia Standish"
