Lydia Perkins Bennett is the daughter of John John Perkins I 1583–1654 and Judith Gater Perkins 1588–1654 who was born in 1632 in Boston, Suffolk County., MA and baptized at First Church in Boston, June 3, 1632. At the age of 19 she married Stephen Benett by about 1651 in Ipswich, Essex County, MA and together they had six known children. Lydia Perkins Bennett was Henry's 1st wife. She is named in the will of her father, John Perkins. Lydia died in Ipswich, Essex co., MA January 12, 1672 at 40 years old [2]. Henry remarried soon thereafter.

Her husband Henry Bennett was born about 1629 in England. He died after 3 Oct 1709. He married second Mary (Smith) (Call) Burr, the widow of Phillip Call and John Burr and the daughter of Richard Smith of Shropham, Norfolk. She died on 12 Jan 1707/8 in Ipswich.

Among other casualties of King Philip’s War was John Bennett, second eldest son of immigrant Henry Bennett of Ipswich, killed by Nipmuc at the Battle of Bloody Brook in South Deerfield. Old Robin’s family was connected to the Ipswich Bennetts as well as to the Perkins family. And the Bennetts and the Perkins were connected to each other, both through marriage and as neighbors. In 1651 the immigrant Henry Bennett married Lydia Perkins of Perkins Island. Lydia’s father was Jacob Perkins, a son of the John Perkins Jr. who 19 years earlier had received Old Robin’s warning that the Tarrantines were coming. Jacob’s son, Jacob Perkins Jr., who later served in King Philip’s War with Old Robin’s sons, was Lydia’s brother.

Her mother, Judith Gater was baptised on 19 Mar 1588/9 in Hillmorton, Warwickshire. [Ref] She married John Perkins on 8 Oct 1608 in Hillmorton. An Elizabeth Gater, who must have been Judith's relative, lived in Ipswich and was the subject of a 28 Apr 1669 court case. Elizabeth Gater deposed that while she was at [Judith's son-in-law] Henry Bennett's house, Elizabeth Lynkhorne came in and said that John Ring would put Elizabeth Gater in jail before Saturday night. She carried Elizabeth Lynkhorne out of the house and shut the door. Elizabeth Lynkhorne testified that she had gone to "her dame Bennet's [Judith's daughter Lydia Perkins's] house" and Elizabeth Gater threw her down on the stones, kicked her and knelt on her. After this, she went back inside and asked Goody Bennett and Benjamin Morgan to witness that Elizabeth Gater had beaten her although she had never struck Elizabeth Gater. Following the incident, Elizabeth Lynkhorne went to get a warrant and, while she was gone, John Ring showed up and said that Elizabeth Lynkhorne had been lying. Lydia Bennett, aged 36, also deposed and Benjamin Morgan testified that Elizabeth Gater had said that she would be the death of Elizabeth Lynkhorne. The court ordered Elizabeth Gater to go to jail for a week, but then changed the sentence to a fine, which was paid by Henry Bennett.
