Lydia E. Moon

Among those who have done a lot of research on the Moon lines, there has been a long standing controversy over whether Lydia Moon, wife of Jonas, was a Bodine or a Burk. The researchers in this area seem to think she was a Burk, but it is noted in some of their records that she may have been a Bodine. If she was a Burk, she was most likely the sister of John Burk, born 1766 in VA, died in Hamilton County. If she was a Bodine, she was most likely the sister of John Burk's wife, Effie Bodine, who was born 1780 in VA, and also died in Hamilton Co, TN. Note, also, that the birth and death dates on her old and new headstones are at odds. I have listed the dates from her original headstone.

1. Mary (Polly) Moon, born 1800; died 10 March 1870 and buried in Denny Hill Cemetery. Married to William (Bill) Denny, born 1788, died 5 Aug 1878.

2. Jane Moon, born 1803; died 19 June 1874 in Jackson County, Alabama. Married c1819 to Edward Noah Maples, born 1798, died 1838.

3. Sophia (Becky) Moon, born 27 April 1805; died 5 March 1842 in Harrison, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Married c1829 to Anderson A. Vinson, born 7 March 1804; died 15 October 1888 in Cocke County, Tennessee.

4. William Moon, born c1807; died 1868 in Blount County, Alabama. Married c1833 to Mary Ann Bodine, born 1816 in Fairfax County, Virginia; died 1898 in Blount County, Alabama.

5. Lydia Moon, born c1809; died 1853/1860 in Roane County, Tennessee. Married 7 September 1826 in Roane County to William Jones, born 1798/1802; died 18 January 1868 in Roane County.

6. Effie Moon, born c1815. Married 17 August 1833 in Roane County, Tennessee to Charles McClure.

7. Jonas Posey Moon, born 26 May 1816; died 14 August 1877. Married 26 October 1837 in Roane County, Tennessee to Lucinda Caroline Johnson, born 16 March 1820; died 10 June 1900.

8. James Harvey Moon, born 22 August 1818; died 5 March 1904. Married (1) 19 August 1840 to Sallie A. Francisco, died 1841; (2) 9 November 1843 in Roane County, Tennessee to Louisa (Eliza) Maria Johnson, born 13 October 1821; died 6 March 1892.

9. Noah Moon, born 30 October 1820; died 20 May 1887. Married 4 September 1845 to Matilda J. Francisco, born 31 May 1830; died 6 October 1882.

10. John D. Moon, born 14 March 1823; died 17 May 1867. Married to Sarah C. Williamson, born 24 September 1831; died 28 April 1904.
