Today is Father's day. About my beloved father, late Mr.M.A.U.Menon (1910-1982):-

A person highly devoted to his family, an eminent Entomologist by profession, and a highly talented amateur artist. Highlighting a few aspects of my father's profession and his artistic talents.

Started career as an Entomologist, worked in the Public Health Laboratory, Department of Health Services, and Medical College, Trivandrum. His work was mainly on the Mosquitos that transmit diseases Filariasis and Malaria, and the Taxonomy of the mosquitos. In the 1950s participated in the investigations conducted by the World Health Organization on Filariasis in Maldive Islands, Southern Thailand and New Caledonia.Scholarly articles by him have been published in Indian as well as foreign journals such as Bulletin of Entomological Research and Bulletin of WHO. Many of these articles have been cited by other research workers. His name MENON.M.A.U. is included in the list of 'World Diptera Taxonomists'.

M.A.U.Menon was talented in fine arts, especially painting and music. He used to enjoy good Carnatic music, used to attend regularly the concerts organized by Sree Swathithirunal Sangeetha Sabha in Trivandrum. After retirement in 1965, turned his attention to his passion for painting. Though started as an amateur artist, he was known to have the dexterity of a professional and was appreciated for the wide range of themes and techniques he dealt with in his paintings..
