married Ieva Narbontaite January 15, 1871 in the Naujamiestis church on the nobleman's estate She died at 36 yr. and 3 yr. later he married Ona Dauknyte , 10 yr. younger than he was and they had a daughter Ona .

He was a serf on a nobleman's estate and worked his way up through hard work to be manager of the whole estate and was given 128 1/2 acres of land by the nobleman. The home he built still stands unoccupied for over 90 years and is the only home left in the hamlet of Vilkiskis . He sold the property in 1910 and gave the proceeds to his children. The nobleman's villa previously burned.
