About MP John de Pounde
MP of Portsmouth | 1357 - 1358
No records are known of John de Pounde's origin, though he is most likely from one of 3 counties. The likeliest counties he would be from are Hampshire, Somerset, and Gloucestershire; between 1330 and 1335. John was listed as the MP of Portsmouth for 1357/58. His son is Thomas Pounde, MP of Portsmouth; though no wife is named.
There is speculation he is related to the Anglo-Norman Poyntz of Gloucestershire from Y-DNA. The surname de Pounde is most likely an Anglo-Saxon derivation of Poyntz. The Poyntz descend from Pons 'FitzWilliam', who is speculated to be a paternal Grandson of Richard the Fearless; Grandson of Rollo of Norway.
Perhaps there is another paternal connection to a Ralph de Punda from Hampshire, listed in the 'Fleet of Fines. (1242) though records from the local Domesday Book have been lost.
