Mabel Elizabeth Jane Dalrymple Thacker

Mabel Thacker (Berners) was born on April 25,1867 in Blackheath, Kent or Streatham.  In 1890 she married Samuel George Thacker in Lewes & in 1891 they were living at 23 Baldry Gardens, Streatham London.  Four days before the census was taken,  a daughter had been born to Mabel & her birthdate is recorded as April 2nd 1891 but she had not yet been named so appears as Miss Thacker . As she does not feature in the 1901 census, she  may have died in an epidemic in 1891/2.  In 1901, Samuel & Mabel & 3 children are living at Grasmere ,Grange RD, Surrey..  Marjorie Thacker is 8, Bernes is 5 & Muriel is 3 & they had all been born in Streatham, Surrey. It would seem that Samuel George Thacker (43)is thriving as a land surveyor & Mabel Thacker (33) now has three servants to assist with the housekeeping. They were Mildred Charman (38) Cook  domestic, born in Redhill, Surrey; Angelina March (26) Parlourmaid born in Stroud, Gloucestershire & Mary Shepherd (21) Housemaid domestic born in Peckham, London.  On September 29 1939 Mabel EJD Thacker is widowed & living  at Chaltoners, The Green Falmer Road, Brighton Sussex, she is 72 & enjoys Private means. The head of the household is William Brown & there are four domestic servants.
