OBITUARY HASTINGS GAZETTE DEC 20?, 1938 Deceased Lived In County Since A Child, Rites Held Thursday Funeral services were held Thur at 9 am in St. Boniface church for Mrs. Lena Kneifel, resident of Dakota county since she was 6 yrs old, who died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Theodore Salzl, 17th & Vermillion streets. Heart disease was given as the cause of her death although complications developed during her long siege of illness which extended over a period of several years. She passed away at 10:30 am Monday morning. Fr. Philip Bahner officiated at the funeral mass & acting as pallbearers were 6 nephews, William Rischette, Claude & Francis Donndelinger, Arthur, Edward & Gregor Schabert. Mrs. Fred Beissel, Mrs. Jerry Gergen, Mrs. Nicholas Reinardy, Mrs. Caroline Keller, Mrs. Anna Otto, & Mrs. Henry Doffing, fraternity sisters of the deceased, formed an honorary escort. Interment was in St. Mary's church cemetery, New Trier. Mourning the loss of their mother & sister are 4 daughter, Mrs. John Schabert, of New Trier, Mrs. Nicholas Donnedelinger, Mrs. Marie Rischette & Mrs. Theodore Salzl of Hastings, 1 son Jacob Kneifel of Hastings, one sister Elizabeth Schmitz of St. Paul & 2 brothers, George & Frank Landsberger of New Trier. There are 28 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Kneifel died Feb 3, 1919 & 3 children Agatha, Peter & Joseph preceded their mother in death. The daughter of Wolfgang & Agatha Beissel Landsberger, Madeline Landsberger was born Mar 23, 1858 in Oshkosh, WI. When 6 yrs old she came with her parents to live in New Trier where she attended school in Hastings at St. Boniface school & at the age of 26 married Frank Kneifel of Lindvisessa, GER, the ceremony taking place in the Assumption church, St. Paul. For many years the couple lived in the vicinity of New Trier, Mrs. Kneifel remaining on their farm until 1924, 5 years after the death of her husband when she came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Salzl. Her health failed steadily as the years went by & for some time she had been a helpless invalid. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's society of St. Mary's church, New Trier for many year.
