Magnus's father can not be John Lundquist as is commonly reported. John would have had to be 12 or so when Magnus was born with Christine his mother being of the right age. There is no information on who Magnus's father is so far, but, because Marie Stina Gustavdaughter has Gustav as her father, it is most likely based on current evidence that her father was Gustav and likely so was also Magnus's father.
There has been some discussion that John's name was Andersson when they arrived in America but at the time ofsigning their citizenship papers they chose to change their name to Lundquist because there were too many Anderssons. This has verified by finding Swedish records.
John and Christine along with Magnus, Christine, and one-year old Fred immigrated from Karlsta, Grasmark, Sweden to the United States in 1888 and settled in La Grande Township, Douglas Co., MN. Le Grande Township is part of the Western edge of the city of Alexandria.
They later received their homestead on the NW quarter of section 26 in Deer Township, 1 mile north of Strathcona, Roseau Co. on December 2, 1907, although a receipt dated February 24, 1906 shows they paid taxes in the amount of $1.83 for the year 1905. They appear to have arrived in Roseau Co. in 1899 to claim their homestead.
