The Eka family, medieval high-salvation family, probably of Småland origin, which was named after the farm Eka in Lillkyrka sn (Upps.), Which in the 15th century became its homestead. The eat brought a slant (beam) into the shield. Its oldest known member, Trotte Petersson(see below 1), lived in the mid-1300s. The assertion in older genealogies that he was the son of a gunman by the name of Peter Johansson cannot be substantiated. His son Magnus Trottesson appeared in the years 1364–1411 and was knighted in 1391. During the battle between King Magnus Eriksson and Albrekt of Mecklenburg he seems to have belonged to the party of the peoples first, for in August. In 1364 he stayed in Oslo. However, he returned to Sweden fairly soon, and in the Edsvik Treaty of 1371 he stood on the king, Albrekts side. He remained faithful to him even after the rebellion in 1388 and was one of the four native Swedes, who acted as King's followers even in 1395 at the final settlement between him and Queen Margaret. In 1396 he sealed the recess of Nyköping, and in 1409 he was one of the king's judges at the raffle event in Uppland.Bo Jonsson's trusted man, and Bengta Bengtsdotter (Oxenstierna). In the first marriage, Gregers Magnusson was born (see below 2) and in the second Karl Magnusson (see below 3). The latter had two sons, Trotte Karlsson(see below 4) and Magnus Karlsson, who was the gunner and the national council and appeared in the years 1471–84. Fr. about 1476 he attended numerous council meetings, was chief magistrate at Stäkeholm in 1482 and participated as a Swedish delegate in the union meetings in Kalmar 1482, 1483 and 1484. By Brother Trottes (see below 4) extreme political attitude, nothing traces M; otherwise, he did not play any more significant political role. He married Jan 15 1475 at Eka with Sigrid Eskilsdotter, daughter of Eskil Isaksson (Baner), and through this married relations with a family who, relatively early, withdrew from the most eager union friends. Sigrid married Nils Eriksson (Gyllenstierna) in 1487 and died in 1527 (see about her Swedish biographical, lexicon, 2, Banér 1). M. had the children Karl, Gregers, Måns and Märta, about which little is known, and Trotte Månsson(see below 5) and Cecilia Månsdotter, b. Probably one of the years closest to 1475 and probably married during the last part of the 1490's with Erik Johansson (Vaasa) to Rydboholm. Gustav I was one of the many children in this marriage. After Stockholm's massacre in 1520, where Cecilia lost her husband, she was held in Stockholm for some time. She was promised to regain her freedom if she could persuade her son Gustav to submit to King Kristian. She also wrote to him, but when he refused to give in to her prayers, she and a couple of her daughters were probably taken to Copenhagen in the autumn of 1521, where she was imprisoned in the notorious Blue Tower. She died there in a plague illness in 1522 or early next year and is buried at St. Nicolai Cemetery. Her brother Trotte had in his marriage a son, Måns Trottesson, who drowned in Stockholm in 1523 or 1525, as well as an illegitimate son, Olof Trottesson, who entered Gustav I's service and was adopted by him. He sat as bailiff at Kastelholm castle in the years 1537-47 and also became governor of Åland. In the latter year, he was appointed king's commander at Turku Castle, which he then retained until his death. The King's last letter to him is dated July 30, 1552; the following year he was dead. From him descended the illegitimate Eka family. By contrast, Rörik Birgersson's family, who carried a beam in their arms and therefore sometimes, incorrectly and inappropriately, called the older Eka family, have no connection with Trotte Petersson's family. • The transcript of the letter text has obvious formal flaws. Among other things, the pronoun "warä" ("spring") (r. 3) should only refer to Ingegerd. Another example is the subsequent phrase about the husband's consent ("medh mys husboändä gotwiljä ok kärärelse", not included in the regiment) which is superfluous since he is one of the letter's issuer.
