E. Volney was a marble dealer, business owner, Root and Dunsbeck Tombstones in Niagara Falls, New York. He was also a teacher and hotel Keeper. Volney married the granddaughter of his father's brother ( his second cousin ), Amelia Root, daughter to Anson Root and granddaughter to Josiah Root and Phebe Vinton Root.
E. Volney Root and Amelia resided in Port Byron and Niagara, New York, their 6 children were born in Niagara. E. Volney and Amelia moved and were living in Ulysses,,Tompkins County, New York by 1880, by 1900 they were living in Ithaca,Tompkins County, New York and by 1901 E. Volney and three of his six children were listed in the Ithaca City directory, Amelia was not listed and assume she died 1900-1901 One son William Webster Root became a well known doctor.

Volney and Amelia Emily (Root) Root, and a descendant of Thomas Roote, who came from England about 1637.
