About Maj. Elisha Avery
He was made lieut., 3d co., 8th reg't. May, 1804; capt., Oct. 3, 1806; major, same regiment, Feb., 1809; served as major of 8th regiment through the War of 1812 {Ms. State Papers, Hartford; Conn. Men in the War of 1812, p. 7). He was a merchant; a man of wealth; prominent in church and society.
