About Major General Gronow Davis
Gronow Davis joined the Royal Artillery and served in the Crimean War. He served at the Siege and Fall of Sebastopol. In 1855 he saved the life of Lieutenant Sanders during the attack on the Redan and under fire he continued to convey other wounded soldiers to safety.
He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his brave actions. He also received the Brevet of Major and the 5th Order of the Medjidie for his actions in the Crimea.
