James P. Moore, Jr. 87, Fishers, passed away October 26, 2008. Services: 11 a.m. Friday October 31, 2008 in Crown Hill Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

He was born here in Indianapolis, but lived all over the country at various times and was stationed in Europe, the Philippines, and Alaska during his military career.

He lived a very full life, and among his various adventures was driving race cars for a living until the time he entered the US Air Force where he served for 24 years as a fighter pilot during WWII flying the venerable warbirds the P-47 and the P-51 and also served as an instructor. He was shot down over Italy and was a POW held by the Germans for a short time near the end of the war.

He retired as a Major in 1964 from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio and went on to use his flight skills as a private corporate pilot flying a Sabreliner for a millionaire. During that time he set 3 world records at the Paris Air Show in 1967 for an Atlantic crossing that still stands today.

He then went on to complete another full career as an instructor for Flight Safety in St. Louis.

Throughout his life and during retirement he enjoyed boating and fishing and a continued interest in cars. His loving companion, Margaret L. Moore; son, James L. Moore; daughter, Pamela A. Stigall (husband Jeff); grandchildren, James, Jamie, Judy, Darrell, Danielle, Richard and Jerry; as well as 8 great grandchildren survive him. He was also able to spend time at home with his beloved pets, two Siamese cats, Sam and Misty, and three dogs, Princess, Prince, and Lady. Arrangements: Crown Hill Funeral Home.

Born at 8:40 pm, 20 minutes after Jean (8:20).
