About Major John Bliss
There seems to be some disagreement with the details of the profile of Maj. John Bliss and each has its flaws.
First Version: This follows from Aaron Tyler Bliss in "Genealogy of the Bliss Family in America, 1982, that John Bliss (Maj.) of Newport (1645 Sandwich MA,1717 Newport RI) was the son of a George Bliss (1591 UK,1667 Newport RI), George Bliss was the son of John Blisse of Northamtonshiire, UK. George Bliss married Ann Shaw in 1635. George Biiss was also thought to be the brother of Thomas Bliss (1588 UK,164 5MA) of Rehoboth, MA. Both George Bliss of Newport and Thomas Bliss of Rehoboth were thought to be cousins to Thomas Bliss of Hartford, CT (1590, 1650c) . This Newport (Maj.) John Bliss supposedly married Damaris Arnold (1648,1720), Newport, RI. She was the daughter of Gov. Benedict Arnold of Rhode Island, who was also the great grandfather of Benedict Arnold V, the hero and later traitor. This profile reflects this version.
Second Version: Geni has Maj. John Bliss in a Master Profile (MP) also of Newport, RI (1645 Sandwich MA,1717 Newport RI) and married to Damaris Arnold (1648,1720), Newport, RI. However, Maj. John Bliss has a different George Bliss father (1591UK, d?). Flaw is that the profile of this George Bliss does not say where he died or whether he immigrated to America, which is counter to the idea that he was the father of this MP Maj. John Bliss, born in Sandwich, MA. Geni links this George Bliss (likely a nonimmigrant) as the son of Thomas Bliss (Sr. in UK), who is the brother of the father John Bliss (UK) of the George Bliss of Newport above. Since Thomas Bliss (Sr. in UK) is also the father of Thomas Bliss of Hartford (Sr. In US, but Jr. in UK), this George Bliss and Thomas Bliss of Hartford are first cousins to Thomas Bliss of Rehobot, quite different from the Aaron Tyler Bliss version above. The top of the first cousin tree is the common grandfather William Bliss (1530 UK, 1574 UK).
Floyd Bliss Hanson
Disclosure: Aaron Tyler Bliss is a 9th cousin once removed, from Thomas Bliss of Hartford.
