Service Description: 1) ALSO SECOND MAJOR IN COL EDWARD POPE'S 2ND BRISTOL CO REGIMENT; 2) ASSESSOR, 1775; TOWN COMMITTEE, 1776

He was a "blacksmith in Freetown, representative to General Court in 1775, and very active in that body. On May 31,1777 Freetown chose him as agent to bring to trial...(28 names which included Jael, William, Silas 2nd, and other relatives)" Ref. E. W. Pierce Contributions, p. 73.

On Aug. 27, 1777, he bought (Worcester 76-159) 70 acres in Sutton, and with his son built the old red house. He served as Major in the Revolution under Col. Edward Pope. Deed dated 21 Feb. 1784 in which Joshua of Sutton conveys land in Freetown, he mentions his grandfather, Jacob. Jacob's will mentions his father, John, and grandson, Joshua, eldest son of his son, Isaac, dec. (A. B. P. Transcript 7235)



Enlisted in the 2nd Infantry Regiment, Bristol County Militia under the command of Colonel Edward Pope, and was commissioned a major on February 7, 1776. Jacob was discharged in 1778
