About Major Richard Ewen
Richard Ewen was one of ten commissioners appointed 22 July 1654, by Bennett and Claiborne, to direct the affairs of Maryland under Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England. The Puritans called a General Assembly at Patuxent in 1654, barring Catholics and those who bore arms against Parliament, and passed The Act of Recognition 20 October 1654 enacting laws for the governing of the Province.
