About Margaret Lleone Aisenman
A native of San Francisco, Margaret Lleone Aisenman (nee Paulsen) became a single mother at a young age and raised her daughter Candis and son Casey mostly in the Los Angeles area. Lleone worked as a legal secretary and put herself through college, graduating with a degree in Urban Planning. After her kids graduated from high school, she set off on a solo adventure to see the world. She boarded Air New Zealand flight 901 two days before her 39th birthday. She did not live to meet her three future grandchildren or her great-granddaughter. She loved going to Sunday jazz concerts in Griffith Park and watching old sci-fi movies. Lleone will be forever missed by her family and friends. Source: Candis Whitaker, daughter, and Tilly Roche Clark, sister via https://insights.nzherald.co.nz/apps/2019/erebus/
On the morning of 28 November 1979, Air New Zealand Flight TE901 left Mangere airport, Auckland, for an 11-hour return sightseeing flight to Antarctica. At 12.49 p.m. (NZST), the aircraft crashed into the lower slopes of Mt Erebus killing all 237 passengers and 20 crew on board. It was the worst civil disaster in New Zealand's history.
