About Margaret Campbell

MARGARET CAMPBELL

Margaret Campbell, here treated, is not the same person as Margaret Campbell

Margaret Campbell, here treated is the daughter of Sir Matthew Campbell of Loudoun. NRS: GD8/206 According to Francis James Grant, Rothesay Herald, afterwards Sir Francis James Grant, Lord Lyon King of Arms. she was his second daughter. The Scots Peerage V: 497

Death

According to Sir Francis James Grant, Margaret Campbell, here treated, died on 5 May 1597. The Scots Peerage V: 497 It would seem that he was in error, however. For example, Thomas, Lord Boyd, married for a second time to Jane Stockdale. The Scots Peerage V: p. 165 The date of his second marriage is not known but it would appear to have taken place before 15 August 1665. The Visitation of Yorkshire 1665-1666: p. 58 It seems reasonable to suggest, therefore, particularly in the absence of any evidence to the contrary, that Margaret Campbell. here treated, probably died before 15 August 1665.
