Robert Campbell purchased 220 acres of land in the North River - Long Glade area of Augusta coounty from William Brown and Elizabeth, his wife, and Robert Brown. Corner Jno anderson; corner John Erwin; Thos. Erwin's line. Witnesses: Andrew Erwin, Hugh Cample (sic) [Chalkley, v. 3, p. 301]

Deed Book 12, page 90, 20 August 1765. Robert Campbell and Margaret sold this 220 acre tract to Charles Campbell for 20 pounds; corner Charles Campbell, corner John Erwin. Witnesses: James Trotter, John Craney, Jno Trimble. [Chalkley, V. 3, p. 427]

Will Book 4, page 145, has the Administrator's bond for a Robert Campbell, dated 19 August 1768, with Margaret Campbell (her mark) and Hugh Campbell's bond, administrators, with Charles Campbell, surety. Letters of Administration of his estate were filed 19 August 1768, Augusta Co. Virginia, by his widow. The inventory of Estate was filed 15 November 1768. [Chalkley, v. 3, p. 105.]

Robert Campbell came to the US between 1730 and 1740 and landed in Philadelphia. After living near Landcaster, Pennsylvania, for a short time, moved west and then down the Great Wagon Road to Fort Defiance. This is north of Staunton by 4 miles. Robert and Margaret had three sons and a daughter.

Robert moved from fort Defiance in 1740, moved in 1751 to North River-Long glade next to his son Charles.

The relationship of the three sons, John, Charles, and Hugh, to Robert has been established by Y-DNA testing. DNA testing has proven that this North River Campbell family is not related to the D/M South river Line.
