About Margaret Jane Smith (Houser)
Notes, from 980517 Marvin L. Welborn, Ruckersville,VA.
The 1880 Carroll County, Arkansas Federal Census lists the family: Joseph Smith and Margaret, with two children, John and William, ages 7 and 3 respectively, living with Joseph Smith's brother-in-law. It appears to be his sister, Martha Jo, as both have the same parental birth places of Tennessee for both mother and father, whereas the husband's parental birthplaces are different: Virginia and Tennessee. Margaret's birthplace is listed as Arkansas in this census, yet the 1900 Soundex lists Tennessee. [Note: Edgar Jackson Smith's death certificate lists Margaret J. Houser as his mother.]
