She married as his (1st wife) before Sept. 1400 WALTER HUNGERFORD, K.B., K.G., king's knight, Knight of the Shire for Wiltshire and for Somerset, Speaker of the House of Commons, Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset, Steward of the Household to Kings Henry V and Henry VI, Constable of Windsor Castle, Lord High Treasurer of England, 4th but 1st surviving son and heir of Thomas Hungerford, Knt., of Farleigh and Wellow, Somerset, and Heytesbury, Wilts, Speaker of the House of Commons, Chief Stewart to John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, by his 2nd wife, Joan, daughter and co-heiress of Edmund Hussey, Knt. He was born about 22 Jun 1378. They had four sons, Walter, Robert, Knt. [2nd Lord Hungerford], Edmund, Knt., and Thomas, and two daughters, Margaret (wife of Walter Rodney, Knt.) and Elizabeth. He was pre-eminently distinguished in the French wars, for which he was granted the lordship of Hommet d'Arthenay in Normandy. He was one of the executors of King Henry V and served on the Council of Regency in 1422. He was summoned to Parliament from 7 Jan. 1425/6 to 2 Jan. 1448/9, by writs directed Waltero Hungerford Chivaler, whereby he is held to have become Lord Hungerford. His wife, Katherine, was living 12 Nov. 1432. He married (2nd) before 8 May 1439 ELEANOR BERKELEY, widow of John Arundel, K.B., Lord Arundel and Mautravers [see ARUNDEL 12], and Richard Poynings, Knt., of Poynings, Sussex [see POYNINGS 12], and daughter of John Berkeley, Knt., of Beverstone, Gloucestershire, by his 2nd wife, Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of John de Betteshorne, Knt., of Betteshorne (in Sopley), Wilts [see FISHER 9]. They had no issue. SIR WALTER HUNGERFORD, 1st Lord Hungerford, died testate 9 August 1449, and was buried with his 1st wife in Salisbury Cathedral. His widow Eleanor, died testate 1 August 1455. _____________________
