1608: EXTRACT OF CONTRACT of SALE by John Hammiltoun [Hamilton] of Uddistoun [Udston], freetenant of the subjects infra, with consent of Margaret Mwreheid [Muirhead], his wife and John Hammiltoun, his son, and apparent heir, fiar of the said subjects, with consent of Helen Quhytfurd [Whiteford], his wife, to Alexander Mwre [Muir], merchant burgess of Hammiltoun [Hamilton], and Janet Machane, his spouse, of part of the said John Hammiltoun of Uddistoun's and his said wife's tenement called "the tenement of the Hall", otherwise "Litstares tenement", lying on the north side of the "Hie Gait" of the said burgh of Hammiltoun, namely the high hall and two low booths thereunder in the "Foirgait", the high chamber and low house thereunder, adjacent thereto, on the north part thereof, and seven feet from the fore-wall of the said low house in the close of the said tenement; together with the third part of the orchard or yard of the said tenement, on the east side thereof, with free access from the "Foirgait" of the said burgh to the said chamber and house under the same and to the said east third of the said orchard and yard, and under stipulation that the passage through the houses to be built on the yard-head in the back of the said close in the "west rowme" be of equal breadth with the fore-entry. 27th October & 24th November 1608.
